Erlenzeisig - Eurasian siskins (Spinus spinus)

Description

A group of Eurasian siskins (Spinus spinus) flutters through the treetops, their yellow-green plumage blending with the winter branches. They are restless, constantly moving, hanging acrobatically from alder cones as they pick out seeds. Their calls fill the air—a mix of high-pitched trills, sweet twittering, and sharp, rising tzee notes. The chatter is lively, almost playful, as they keep in touch with one another. This recording was made in Bavaria, capturing the unmistakable sound of these small, social finches as they forage among the alders. Their delicate but energetic song is a true sound of the season.
